Humm I'm starting to notice a trend here..
Scott and I meet, 11 months later we get engaged, 11 months later we get married, 11 months later we buy a house.. ooooo what do you think happens next???? 11 months later.... NOTTTTT how about 1 week after moving into our new house we find out we are expecting.. WHAT?? This wasn't in the plan. We wanted to enjoy our new home, decorate, meet people. I guess God had other plans for us, we still couldn't me more excited. Baby's due date - 1/15/06 :)
We knew which room was going to be the babies room. It was a corner room, vaulted ceiling, a bay window and was perfect. For the longest time I had an idea what I wanted in a room so there wasn't much deliberating on what the decor was going to be. With me being a drawer (hobby only, nothing super cool) I drew on one wall a 4 foot tall Pooh Bear with one arm around Piglet then on another wall was a large tree with a branch over the bay window and a VERY BIG (about 6 or more feet) Tigger hanging from the branch just over the bay window. I then drew three other Pooh Bear characters as 8x11's, framed them, and put them just over the closet doors. We picked out a Cherry color crib with a matching changing table, and a nice glider rocker. The room looked so nice. :) I couldn't wait to hold my little one and enjoy this pretty room.
Scott and I started picking names and we chose, Luke or Samantha. It was to much to say both so we nicknamed my belly Luke-er-Sam.
So I'm pregnant. I had morning sickness just in the morning that lasted about 4 months. And it was pretty funny. I remember one weekend morning, Scott and I were going to head out to run an errand and I said, just a minute, went, got sick, then turned to him and said, o.k. lets go, with a smile on my face. :) It's just the way I rolled. :) Cravings.. humm healthy food.. I know crazy.. Now's the time to send Scott out, eat ice cream, fried food, EVERYTHING you wanted.. but all I wanted was fruits. --- later this ends up being funny. Things I couldn't stand anymore.. Banana's, spaghetti.. ughhh I couldn't even be in the same room as them. LOL.
20 week mark came around and I had the dreaded 2 hour glucose test. I had the orange flavor and it wasn't bad at all. Tasted like Orange crush! I waited the 2 hours, had my blood drawn and all was good.. No gestational diabetes for me. YEAH! I could keep eating what I was. By this time I had felt the baby kick and knew it wasn't butterfly's anymore. There were several day's that I didn't feel the baby kick and I would stress out, call the dr. and they would have me come in for a stress test. All was good.. I got to hear the baby's heart beat, and several times get another ultra sound. :) That always makes a mom - to - be super happy to see their little one.
Week 28, I start dilating. I'm now at 2cm. This wasn't good news to my Dr. I also had placenta previa - partial. What this means is the placenta is covering the cervix and the doctors have to keep a close eye one it. Usually as the baby gets bigger the placenta moves out of the way and things work out. As weeks go by placenta is still low, cervix is dilated to 3cm and things are thinning out.
Week 37, I still have placenta previa.. doctor puts me on light duty, and bed rest. Oh and I've been told that baby is measuring big and they are expecting it to be 8 + almost 9lbs. At this point I've gained 18 pounds and was ALL baby! I couldn't have been more excited to enjoy tv shows, lay on the couch and start my maternity leave... WRONG! It was so boring! After about the first day or so I wanted to get out of the house, enjoy some adult interaction.. do something!
Week 39, baby is still measuring big and got the o.k. that if little one wasn't out naturally then I was going to get induced on 1/16/06. Woohoo one week to go. :)
1/14/06- I had started sleeping on the couch because it was to tough to get into our bed being that it was so high up and all. It's 10:30 at night, I get by bed together, lay down and humm feel the urge to go to the bathroom.
Come back, lay down and then another urge.. this is weird.. why am I peeing on myself..
3rd time back to bed.. same thing, then it dawns on me my water broke! SHOWTIME!! Guess we aren't sleeping tonight!
We get into the car start heading to the hospital and then can't remember if we closed the garage or not, turn around check.. Yup it's closed and head to the hospital.. by this point contractions are crazy.. in pain, every couple minutes this is the real deal. We get to the hospital check in on the maternity floor. They have us go to triage to make sure I am in active labor and we find out that I'm 6cm and this is it.. whoohooo! It's midnight, we call the parents and say we are having a baby!
I get settled in what is going to be my room, get my epidural everything checks out, previa ended up moving up just enough that the doctors thought I could go vaginally. I fall asleep and wake up at 6am. (At least I got a little bit of sleep). :) I hear my mom and Brian.. They made it. :) Doctor check me and it's a go, time to start pushing. Brian goes to the waiting room, Mom is on one side, Scott is on the other. I start pushing and 25 minutes later we have a .....
BOY!
Luke Andrew Colby
1/15/06
9lbs 2oz
20.5inches
Scott's parents were at the hospital bright an early on the 15th. :)
From how Scott and I met to the journey's 2 boy's throw into our life. Life is never dull in the Colby house!

Married, live in St. Louis... now what??
The Big Island was amazing!! Snorkling, helicoptor ride over the volcano and waterfalls, luau, hiking and relaxing on the beach. What more could a girl ask for. :) Those 8 days sure did go by fast.
Now to start our new lives together in the "real" world. After the honeymoon it was time for me to start looking for a job in St. Louis area. I started off working for a company called ARC - collection agency then quickly found something that had me helping others rather than bugging others. :) I started working for United Healthcare and loved it. Scot was still working for Retirement Plan Services.
Then the next big step was coming. Let's look for a house, after all we knew a family was what we wanted and we didn't want to live in our apartment forever. The hunt was on and after about 4 months of looking we found the perfect 1st house. :) Split level, 3 bedroom, 2 bath and a open floor plan, located in St. Charles. Just a short 25 minutes for both Scott and I got to work. YEAH, a house, the room, the decorating, the memories that will be made.. :)

Our Wedding
May 29, 2004
How crazy is it that I'm writing about my Wedding day on my nine year anniversary? Crazy!!! Feels like it was just yesterday. :)
Anyway, so here we go....
I had already moved all my things to our apartment in Saint Louis, Mo. (actually Manchester, Mo.) so I spent my night before my wedding on a air mattress at my parents house. Talk about having the hardest time falling asleep.. not because I was on a air mattress but because EVERYTHING was running through my mind about all of the events that were going to happen the next day.
Morning of my wedding.I couldn't have asked for any better weather. It was in the 70's sunny with just a few clouds and perfect! I meet up with a couple of my bridesmaids - Kristy Johnson and Marci Garcia, we went and had our hair and make up done together. (who knows what I had for breakfast that morning.. :) Once we were done with that I came back to my parents house and my family (brother, mom and Brian) loaded up then it was off to the church. YIPEE!
I arrived at our church Our Lady of Mercy in Aurora, IL. around 11am. I got into my dress, took some pictures with close friends and family then it was time to see Scott before the craziness started. Everything went off with out any problems. At noon the photographer started taking pictures of everyone and anything. Come 2pm, it was show time.. I was sooooo nervous. The wedding party was family and close friends. We had some of the best people surrounding us! Music starts and the bridal party walks down the aisle as planned, music is perfect (exactly what I picked out) then it was my turn to walk down.. There I am standing at the end of the alter, 240 eyes on me (talk about a knot in your stomach.. YIKES!), waiting for the music to change then .... waiting... waiting... waiting.. It seemed like it took forever and the musician wasn't looking up! Finally I said the heck with it, I'm walking down the aisle! :) Half way down the pianist looks up sees that I have already started walking and changes music. If that's the worst that happens this entire day I'm in GREAT shape! The rest of the ceremony went as planned.(though I have to say, I think my anxiety got the better of me, because as years have gone bye I've been told that I wasn't really standing at the alter that long, I was just impatient. Maybe, but I couldn't just stand there and have all those eyes one me. Let's get this party started)!
After the I DO's there were more pictures taken then it was onto the trolley for a ride around town with family and and bridal party. I really wish we could have done that longer.. Some of the best beers we could have shared! :) While on the trolley ride we stopped at Naperville river walk to take some outdoor pictures. It was so pretty and really a time to let my hair down and me the silly me that I am! After some more pictures it was back onto the trolley.. next stop the Marriott in Lisle.
Our reception was perfect. We walked into the hall to the Star Wars theme music.. after all I had to let Scott pick something out right! :) We danced, we enjoyed everyone's company, and we drank. The song that Scott and I danced to as our 1st song was "The Luckiest" by Ben Folds it's so fitting! If you haven't heard of it, look it up now!
I couldn't have asked for a better party, but ohh was I beat by the end of the night (10:30 or 11) Anyway, off to bed it was, the next morning my mom took us to the airport, off to the Big Island of Hawaii we were heading to spend 8 wonderful days there!

Where to live.
Here we are, planning our wedding. It's about four months before the big day and we start talking about where we want to live. We knew we didn't want to stay in Chicago it was just too cold for either of us. Scott had suggested Atlanta, Georgia, however I said no way! It was just too far from family. So our thinking caps were still on and a couple of weeks later Scott suggested Saint Louis. I said its a done deal, now go find a job! (I can work anywhere)
Scott found a job and worked in Saint Louis for about 6 weeks before our weeding. I stayed with my parents, kept working and finished the final preps on the weeding.

Engaged!!
It was the weekend of June 20, 2003. That Saturday morning I thought that I would make some breakfast for Scott and I. While I was at the grocery store Scott called my parents to get their blessing on the engagement. (Little did I know any of this).
The plan was to go to Lincoln Park zoo and that evening go on a cruise around Lake Michigan. Well, we got to the zoo, and there was no parking so instead we decided to walk around Buckingham fountain. I started to get a little tired of walking around and asked if we could sit down. Every time I picked a nice spot Scott would say no. After the third or fourth time of me picking a spot he finally found the right one.
There we were sitting in the grass, a nice little quiet area and I decided to find three pieces of grass and braid them. I made this braid into a ring and asked for Scott's hand. He of course gave me his right hand and I wanted his left. I slipped the braided grass onto his ring finger and said "I will always love you". Well, I guess that open the door up for him because before I knew it he's opening a box and straight to the point said "Will you marry me". I was so excited of course. It didn't matter that I couldn't see the ring, (Scott was laying in the grass and I was sitting up). After crouching down I finally saw this beautiful ring, it was exactly what I wanted! I quickly had it put on my finger and couldn't wait to show everyone. We of course had our picture taken in front of Buckingham fountain.
Planning this weekend out, we had already booked a hotel in downtown Chicago. We headed to our room with a beautiful view and got cleaned up and ready for our cruise around the lake. Dinner, fireworks and seeing the city at night from the lake was just awesome! We finally got back to our hotel room around midnight that night. Sunday morning we enjoyed a day at the zoo.
We eventually made it back to my parents house and showed them the pretty ring.

Well, here is the first of many blogs to come.
It was May 2002 and I was 25 years old. I had just moved from Richmond, Virginia to Woodridge, Illinois, which is where my parents were living and I was moving back in with them. I had only visited the Chicago area and was pretty excited to be living there now. The only problem was I didn't want to explore it on my own. I took a leap of faith and posted on a dating site letting people know that I was "looking for someone to show me around town" No, really! I really wanted someone to show me around this amazing city ~ And NOTHING more~
Well you guessed it. A month after moving to Illinois I had started talking to Scott. First it was over the computer, then phone calls and finally after a month of doing that we decided to meet. I should have known something special was going to come out of this. The day that I was to meet Scott, my mom had taken me to a very upscale salon (Mario Tricoci) and I had gotten my hair cut, highlights (for the first time mind you) and had someone else do my make up. I was pretty confident I was looking pretty good that night. So I met Scott at a TGI Friday. Not the most glamorous first dates, but if you know Scott you know he is pretty low key. We started talking like we had known each other for a long time. We got together the next day for another date and the rest was history!
